Curly hairstyles are often coveted by those with straight hair. The hairstyles that are created with naturally curly hair can have volume, length and texture and therefore contain elements that many straight styles do not. Although there is a ton of volume associated with curly hair, it can take an extended length of time to style the hair, especially when the hair is being straightened with the use of the flat iron. In this case, an individual can spend up to an hour each day trying to remove the volume and curls from the hair for straight locks.
When wearing curly hairstyles down, in a straight fashion it is important to start with essential products that can reduce the amount of frizz within the hair. These products can be obtained at the local drug store and are available for less than ten dollars. The product should be applied to the hair through the use of directions – there are some that are applied to wet hair before styling and some that are applied to dry hair after the hair have been straightened. These anti frizz products can ensure that the hair looks its best while the hair is being styled and remains healthy in appearance.
While straightening the hair with a flat iron, it is important to remember that the hair should be straightened through each layer, beginning with the bottom layer. Through the use of this technique, you can ensure that each layer of the hair is going to be smooth and straight and look great while the curly hairstyles are worn down. It is important to straighten each section of the hair and enable yourself to have smooth, soft and straight hair.

I have naturally curly hair, although I do not have much volume with it. I went to get long layers cut into my hair, and the stylist cut way! too much off, and gave me short layers! I do not know what to do. Please help. Thank you.

oh my i have had that happen to me so many times. What i do is i use gel bc it weighs the hair down where mousse will give you more volume, Using mouse will just make ur curls curlier and ur hair even shorter. Also i blow dry my hair with my blow dryer positioned downward, that way my hair dosent get too curly. then i take my curling iron and curl random pieces and it makes my hair look better because then i can control how curly my hair is. hope this helps.

Sabrina,
Have you considered something a little more permanent to create the curls in the hair, like a perm? It can last up to eight weeks but can help you to retain the curls in your hair.
If you are looking for something less permanent consider using curlers, rather than a curling iron.

Riley,
You should try hair products like shampoos, conditioners and sprays that are meant to help curl the hair!

My hair is naturally curly and i really hate it. It takes 2 hours to straighten. I would totally trade it for just wavy hair.

Elizabeth,
Same here!! It’s super curly and I find that when it’s shoulder length it’s easier to deal with!!

Elizabeth,
I have naturally curly hair too and use to hate it with a passion. So I would straighten it and after a couple years it turned almost dead. Now I’ve learned to love my curlyness but I have also learned how to control it to where it looks really nice. Anyways all I am saying is maybe instead of always straightening it try to experiment with the curls you have:)

Kasi,
I have naturally curly hair (also a bit curlier than the picture) and this is how i get that look.
1. spray a leave in detangler all throughout hair (I like the one made by aussie, it smells really nice)
2. Use a wide tooth comb to detangle hair starting at the bottom and moving up
3. Use a curl creme smoothing product (for long hair about a quarter size plus half that) all throughout the hair
4. arrange hair in the side part
5. use mousse or spray gel (or both like I do) to scrunch hair and hold curls
6. take bangs and smooth/tuck them behind your ear and bobby pin in place.
7. use a finishing spray.
- when your hair dries, remove the bobby pin(s) and your bangs will now be straight like the picture, and the ends will be a little curly and blend with the rest of your curls.
- because there was no heat in this method there is no damage to hair
- works best with the least amount of towel drying possible (towel drying create frizz)
- try to wring out most of the moisture before using the towel
- I have not tried this with a diffuser, but I assume that if you use a flat iron on the front piece it will in effect be the same style.
- for curly hair, never wash your hair every day (except if you’ve been exercising) go 2 or even 3 days between shampoos and don’t forget to deep condition! (especially if your hair is color treated) I recommend moroccan oil deep conditioner.
- for damaged color treated curly hair I recommend using nexxus emergencee Strengthening Polymeric Reconstructor or nexxus Aloxxi Polymedic Emergency Reconstructor, the difference is unbelievable in hair quality after just a couple uses. Check it out on amazon, some walgreens have the first product, but the second is a professional product.
- you can also use one of those two products before getting hair colored to strengthen it before the processing.

So know what you mean about not having the right hair cut. I had someone tell me to cut it while it’s dry but to get your stylist to listen to you is a joke, even though all they have done in the past is a shitty hair cut. I started cutting it on my own, until someone will listen to me. My hair is pretty thick, so if I make a mistake is not too noticeable. I’m not worried about lining up the ends and getting it as straight as possible, that’s for people with straight hair. I get it all styled then look for pieces out of whack. I agree it’s not the best but I can’t stand paying all that money for a terrible cut.
Also, I stopped combing my hair after I get out of the shower, I do use a bunch of conditioner tho. I have noticed I have fewer split ends and my hair is healthier even though I use home color and lighten it as much as I can.
Conditioner only too – never use shampoo everyday if you have thick hair, I use a little shampoo every other wash. Tons of conditioner and no pantene, that’s crap!
